Metro Detroit: Northville’s Rocky’s

C.A. Muer Restaurant Group was founded in 1965 by the legendary restaurateur Chuck Muer, which at its peak had 18 restaurants in 4 states. Charles Rachwitz, also known as Chuck or Rocky, worked for the C.A. Muer restaurant group for 18 years. He served as their Corporate Executive Chef and was a mentor to many future chefs in the Detroit area. Rocky was a integral part of the Muer Corporation by creating and establishing many successful restaurants for his mentor and best friend Chuck Muer. A year before the tragic disappearance at sea, of Chuck and his wife in 1993, he helped Rocky turn the former Northville Charlie’s restaurant into Rocky’s of Northville and he is still going strong today.

Metro Detroit: Northville Sports Den

This week we ventured out to Downtown Northville, to a place that is serving up some great happy hours selections available ALL DAY MONDAY and from 1-6 PM Tuesday through Thursday.   The Northville Sports Den. This is not a new place. It has been open since around 2010. They are a family owned restaurant, located in the Northville Square business complex. There is an entrance in the rear right off the parking lot behind the building so parking is usually not a problem.

Metro Detroit: Northville’s Rebecca’s Family Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor

This week we are featuring Rebecca’s Family Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor at 134 N Center Street in the heart of Downtown Northville.  This place is adorable and so much fun!  It’s decorated throughout with all sorts of antique photos, model airplanes and a whole section dedicated to the Red Wings. But the coolest thing is the miniature train that is constantly circling the dining room which is a big hit with the kids.

Metro Detroit: Northville Downs Trotside Restaurant

In roughly 1911, a piece of property was purchased at 7 Mile and Center street in the small community of Northville . . . roughly 40 miles from downtown Detroit. At the time, Northville was a rural community which was home to roughly 1600 residents. It’s original intended purpose was a private 9 hole golf course. A few years later, a group of men, lead by Ed Starkweather (this may be a familiar name if you are familiar with the Plymouth and Northville area) started an Athletic Park where harness racing occurred. The site was later turned into the Wayne County Fairgrounds, the location where Joe Louis trained for his world Championship bout later that year. In 1944 Northville Downs was born.

Cider and Doughnuts and Beer oh my!  It’s Friday and time for this week’s Fun Food Friday! It's that time of year and the smell of cider and doughnuts is in the air.  We know there are a lot of cider mills in the area, and everyone has their favorite.  If you are an Eastsider you probably go to Blake’s, Franklin Cider Mill is an old standby, and there is always Spicer’s in the Hartland/Fenton area and the Dexter Cider Mill out near Dexter/Pinckney.
