Metro Detroit: Plymouth’s Sardine Room

In 2012 the Yaquinto family opened The Sardine Room.   They were not new to the restaurant industry. They started in Dearborn, with Paisano’s Pizza over 40 years ago. In the early 2000’s they opened Campari’s On The Park, a very popular downtown Plymouth dining location.  Around 2009 they opened Fiamma Grill (which is currently being renovated) right next to Compari’s. Finally, in 2012, The Sardine Room was born. If you live in the surrounding communities, you are likely familiar with at least one of these 3 locations.

The trio of restaurants are all located in a row on Main Street across from Kellogg Park.  The Sardine Room was influenced by back road chicken shacks and seaside dives serving coastal cuisine of the southern united states.  They are dedicated to serving the freshest of seafood, from oysters, shrimp, king crab and lobster claws off their raw bar to, a variety of sandwiches, salads and entrees.  They also offer weekly specials and have a weekend brunch available.  Not a seafood fan?  No worries! They also offer a selection of reasonably prices steaks, burgers and chicken dishes to satisfy your taste buds.

But we are here to talk about their Happy Hour . . . The Sardine Room’s Happy Hour is every day from 4-6PM and served only in their bar area.  They feature:

  • Fresh shucked oysters on the half shell for $1.25 a piece

  • Hand cut fries for $3

  • Shishito peppers for $6

  • A wedge salad for $7

  • Mussels steamed in PBR for $9

  • A chicken or shrimp Caesar salad for only $11

  • A half a pound of peel and eat shrimp for $14.

  • $2 draft PBR’s

  • $6 house wines and cocktails of the day.

Of course we sat at the bar, our favorite spot, and we were right next to the raw bar! I like to people watch and watching the raw bar chef is like a dinner show to me.  We ordered 6 oysters on the half shell, an order of mussels, a PBR and a glass of house Pinot Grigio. We don’t usually get fresh oysters, because many places charge way too much for them. At $1.25 each, how could we go wrong with half a dozen for $7.50…Right?  Here is a link to their Happy Hour Menu.

They were the perfect way to start Happy Hour off right, along with an ice cold beer to go with them.  They were a nice size, not too big and not too small.  We also got an order of the PBR mussels and they were delicious as well.

We are definitely heading back soon! We were intrigued by a couple of their other menu items we saw.  The Grouper Sandwich and Walleye Po’ Boy looked like great sandwiches. The Shrimp & Grits and Jambalaya, off the entrée menu, looked interesting as well. Here is a link to their dinner menu.

The Sardine Room is located at 340 S Main Street and they open daily at 4PM for dinner service with Happy hour until 6.  On Saturdays and Sundays they are open from 10AM till 3PM for their weekend brunch.

Until next time . . . live well, eat well and enjoy life!
