Metro Detroit: Plymouth’s Max & Bella’s Smokehouse

You all know I love BBQ.  I love to make it, and I really love to eat it!  The making of BBQ  comes easy to me . . . .  buying it not so much.  BBQ can be expensive.  It’s worth it, but it’s expensive just the same.  So I am picky where I get it from.  If you are scaling it out (charging by the pound) then you are not likely to get my business. This leads me to this week's Beckerz Bites Fun Food Friday location: Max & Bella’s Smokehouse

Max & Bella’s Smokehouse is located in Downtown Plymouth on Ann Arbor Trail next to the Historic Wilcox House, just a couple blocks east of Kellogg Park. Owner and Chef Aaron Peggs is proud to offer freshly smoked, true southern BBQ in huge portions.  They also offer classic BBQ sides like cheesy potatoes, mac and cheese, coleslaw and house made spicy pickles.  All of their meats are cooked and smoked with Michigan organic cherry and apple woods.  This is a cute place, named after the owners 2 dogs which explains the logo.  It's not flashy -  just cute and nicely decorated on the inside.  There is limited countertop seating (room for 5 or 6 people) but they also have their front porch with 5 or 6 tables.  There is also a larger community table upstairs that seats 8 to 10.

We ordered a 2 meat plate.  This is not on their menu, you just have to ask for it.  It was $27 for 2 meats and a side plus slaw and pickles.  We got ribs and brisket with greens and an extra side of Mac and cheese.  Unlike most BBQ joints, they did not weigh the brisket, they just filled the container with meat (my guess 8 to 12 ounces) and half a slab of ribs.  As previously mentioned HUGE portions.

Max & Bella’s is open Wed thru Sun 12-8.  They serve food until they run out so try to get there early.

Until next week…Live Well, Eat Well!
