Metro Detroit: Plymouth’s Hermann’s Olde Town Grille

This week we are venturing to Plymouth, specifically Plymouth’s Old Village, to Hermann’s Old Town Grille. We don't know how we haven't featured Hermann’s in the past. It is the type of place we are drawn to, and only a few miles from where we live. It is a great neighborhood bar/restaurant that has everything we look for when we go out. A great selection of domestic and craft beers, nice pour of bourbon, good food, lively atmosphere, game room and a moose head over the bar.

They opened their doors in 2003 in the old Starkweather building which was the first commercial building built on W Liberty street in the Old Village. It was originally built in 1871, as a dry goods store by George Starkweather. After 19 years Hermann’s is still going strong. You feel that great neighborhood bar feeling when you walk in. There is a big Moosehead hanging over the bar, and amusing paraphernalia decorating the walls and ceiling. They get a half point deduction for all the U of M décor (Go Green!) It may look small when you walk in, then you will notice they have a large dining area in the back and some streetside seating when the weather is nice. The food is good, and the beer is cold. They have a nice selection of domestics and crafts to choose from, as well as a full bar with some good bourbon choices. On to the food…

We had the Reuben, some boneless wings, regular wings and their spicy kaboom shrimp. The Reuben was delicious, the corned beef was really tender with lots of flavor and the bone in wings were awesome, we liked them better than the boneless. Everything else we saw looked delicious, nice burgers, salads, rice bowls and next time we will have to try their pizza.

Hermann’s is located at 195 W Liberty on the corner of Starkweather. There is street parking, but you can also park on W Liberty. It is a one way street so you need to enter off of Mill street to the east. They are open M-T 11AM to 12AM and F-S from 11AM to 1AM…they are closed on Sunday.

We hope everyone enjoys their long holiday weekend. Until next week.

Enjoy Life and Eat Well!
