Detroit: Midtown’s Honest John’s

Me again…your favorite Realtor and lover of all food. It is Friday and if it’s Friday that means it is time for this week’s Fun Food Friday. This week we are visiting one of our favorite Midtown bars which on top of being a great bar, with a great atmosphere, also has great food…Honest John’s. Honest John’s, in Detroit, is a midtown neighborhood staple since 2002 when John Thompson moved the bar from its original location near Belle Isle on Detroit’s East side where he opened in the early 90s. Thompson sold to the current owners in 2014, who have kept the bar pretty much as Thompson had left it to them. It is nothing flashy just a great neighborhood with really good food, and they serve breakfast all day…every day. Their food and drink prices are very reasonable ($5-$6 pour of bourbon) and they have a good selection of craft beers on draft to choose from.

The menu has something for everyone’s taste and needs. They have burgers, salads and delicious sandwiches, as well as a great selection of vegetarian and vegan options. Their breakfast menu features items like Fruity Pebbles French toast, PB&J pancakes, The Big “O” Vegetarian Omelet, as well as your standard breakfast items.

If you are in the area, stop in and check them out…if nothing else grab an appetizer and a cocktail. Honest John’s is located at 488 Selden St between Cass and 2nd. They are open Mon-Sat from 7AM-2AM, and Sun 9AM-2AM with the kitchen serving a late night menu from 11PM until 1AM daily.

Until next week…Eat Well! Enjoy Life!
