Metro Detroit: Farmington Hill’s Bon Chon

Earlier this year, when we were doing some favorite fried chicken postings, Mara Mazzoni recommended we give Bon Chon in Farmington Hills a try. We usually do not feature chain restaurants, unless they are a local franchise, but after trying Bon Chon we had to give them a shout out.

Bon Chon is located at 27915 Orchard Lake Rd (NW corner of 12 Mile and Orchard Lake) It was founded by Jinduk Seo in 2002 in Busan South Korea and in 2006 he brought it to the heart of New York. In the past 16 years, it has grown internationally with hundreds of locations but only 1 so far here in Michigan. Bon Chon is known for their Korean fried chicken and signature sauces, which are made at their global kitchen in South Korea.

What makes Korean fried chicken so good is the crunch. It is not heavily breaded like some fried chicken, to give it the heavy breading crunch, it is a normal breading/batter. It is fried twice, giving it that super crunchy exterior, while staying nice and juicy on the inside. They keep it simple, by only offering wings (regular and boneless), legs and strips and you can mix them up as well.

They also offer other items that are not fried chicken, like their Korean Tacos, potstickers (which come regular and vegetarian) and edamame. They also have interesting sides like kimchi cole slaw and Korean cheesy street corn.

We ordered a 4 wing 2 leg combo with half spicy and half garlic soy sauces, an order of chicken Korean Tacos, some pork potstickers (also with both sauces) and some Korean street corn. It was all delicious and the chicken was nice and crunchy. Be careful the spicy sauce has a bit of a kick to it but we loved it.

What’s in store for next week? Come back and find out, I am sure it will be yummy!

Until next week…Live Well, Eat Well! Enjoy Life!
