Detroit: Downtown’s Wright & Co.
It’s Friday, so that means we are back with another Fun Food Friday adventure. This week we are going upscale dining with a laid back atmosphere. I’m talking about Wright & Co. This was not my first experience with Wright & Co but it was Teresa and Dylan’s. Since my first time there they have made a lot of changes, one in particular was the reason to go back for a new experience. His name is Chef Kyle Schutte. Chef Kyle came to Michigan from LA a few years back to open BESA another downtown restaurant where Dylan worked right out of culinary school. Chef Kyle left BESA in 2019 and Dylan didn’t stay very long after that, which is how he ended up at Grey Ghost.
Dylan has kept in touch with Chef Kyle and we heard he had taken over at Wright & Co. So we knew we had to get in to see how he put his spin on things and we are glad we did. The menu is small but there is something for everyone. Their plates are meant to be sharable and we always order that way, ordering 5-6 items for the 3 of us to share. It seems like we had one of everything on the menu, and everything was delicious! We’ve provided a copy of their menu, with outlines around the things we ate. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. From the loaded homemade potato chips, to the butterscotch pudding, the flavors were amazing! Menus can be a little confusing and/or intimidating. I like how the menu is broken out separating snacks, vegetables, seafood and meat. Once we ordered, they chose the order to bring things to the table, and it was perfect!
Wright & Co is located in the Historic Wright Kay building, which was built in 1891, at 1500 Woodward Ave in the heart of downtown. It was originally known as the Schwankovsky Temple of Music . . . a dealer of pianos, violins and other instruments. After Schwankovsky folded, the building became home to Grainger-Hannan jewelers. They soon gave way to Wright-Kay jewelers, which stuck around for half a century.
Finding the restaurant is not an easy task since it is located on the 2nd floor. You enter off John R and have to take the elevator up to the restaurant level. It is worth the extra effort.
Until next week…Eat Well! Enjoy Life!
