Metro Detroit: Schoolcraft College’s American Harvest Restaurant

Happy Friday! It’s me, your favorite Realtor, here with this weeks Fun Food Friday. This week we are featuring the American Harvest Restaurant at Schoolcraft College. Yes we have featured it in the past, but it is worth revisiting since it has been a few years. For those of you who are unaware, Schoolcraft College’s culinary arts program has their own restaurant that serves gourmet food at reasonable prices ($12-$15 for an entrée) It is part of the program, so it is all students working the front and back of the house, and is only open when school is in session. Their menu is not large but usually has something for everyone’s tastes. We were fortunate enough to get the last possible reservation for the winter semester. We also found out that they are doing an 8 million dollar renovation starting this summer, which will not be complete until Fall of 2023. They are adding new kitchens and almost doubling the size of the restaurant, so this post will be the last for them for a while.

Enough about the restaurant…on to the food. We all started with a cup of their puree of mushroom soup and a variety of their fresh baked breads. I ordered the shrimp and oyster “Po’ Boy” sandwich which was served with a cucumber remoulade and house made chips. Teresa ordered the Veal Scaloppini which came with a potato celery root Au Gratin, Carrot Custard and white asparagus. Dylan ordered the Coriander Honey Roasted Duck Breast served with Swiss chard, red wine braised strawberries and wild rice pilaf. (For those of you who don’t know, Coriander is also known as Cilantro and Chinese Parsley.) We finished off with Bananas Foster with 3 spoons which is cooked tableside.

Keep your calendars open for Fall of 2023 for their grand reopening…we can’t wait.

Until next week…Eat Well and Enjoy Life!!!
