Metro Detroit: Pump 5 Grille of Livonia

It’s me! Your favorite Realtor “The Food Dude” with this weeks FUN FOOD FRIDAY! This week we are talking about gas station food. In the past few years it has become a thing to open a takeout restaurant inside gas stations, offering fresh cooked burgers and sandwiches. I have seen a number of different places in the area but have only tried a couple. The only one worth mentioning is Pump 5 Grille in Livonia.

Pump 5 is located in the Mobil Gas station at 5 Mile and Middlebelt. It was opened by Chef Hisham, who is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY. It is a cool concept and they seem to have a good following, since they have been open now for a few years. The food is cooked to order, so you can see it is fresh. Their menu is not big, but they do offer a couple breakfast items which are served all day. They offer wraps, salads, chicken sandwiches (grilled or fried - regular or spicy), a few different burgers, chicken tenders, chicken and waffles, egg sandwiches, fries, tots and onion petals. Occasionally they will have a special, like a lamb burger or a Nashville hot chicken. You have the choice of having any item “pumped up” for a couple dollars extra which includes cheese pump dust, pump sauce, bacon and green onion.

We have tried a little of everything. A regular chicken sandwich, a grilled Cajun chicken and a Nashville hot chicken, some onion petals and fries…one regular and one Pumped up. It was all really tasty and fresh with nice sized portions. Teresa and I were not fans of their Pump 5 sauce, maybe because they put too much on, so we now get it on the side.

Pump 5 is located at 29401 5 Mile Rd (SW corner) and is open from 11-7 Mon-S at and 11-5 Sun. Here is a link to their menu which offers you the option of ordering ahead, or check out below!

Everything looked really good and we’ll have to go back and try their other items. The chicken and waffles look delicious.

Until next week…Eat Well and Enjoy Life!!!
