Best of: Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich
It’s the 1st Friday of 2022 and we are back with another Fun Food Friday. We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable time saying goodbye to 2021 and are looking forward to a more positive and prosperous 2022. Who likes a good chicken sandwich? I know we do. We are always in search of the best chicken sandwich especially a Buffalo Chicken or Nashville Hot and believe me we have tried many some great and some not so great.
First there are the big name fast food choices. Popeyes gets our vote hands down, especially for $4. But like Chick-Fil-A don’t go there if you are in a hurry. There are also a few Gas Station places that have popped up in the past few years that are notable. Pump 5 in Livonia, which is in the 5 Mile and Middlebelt Mobil station, is a prime example. We have tried it once after reading some really good reviews on their chicken sandwiches, and for $8 it was a nice sandwich. We weren’t crazy about their pump sauce, so maybe next time we’ll try it without or get it on the side. There is also the Eureka Eatery located inside a gas station in Monroe which is supposed to be the best in the area. W haven’t had theirs yet but we have seen it featured a few times on TV. Looks like we’ll have to make a road trip this spring or summer to try it out.
When it comes to restaurants it is tougher to pick the worthy sandwiches. Unlike fast food it is more expensive, so my expectations tend to be higher, and it is always the 1st thing I look for when opening a menu. Our favorite has to be the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich at Second Best Downtown. It is just a great sandwich all around. It is full of flavor with the right amount of spice on a delicious bun and homemade celery slaw.
These are not hard to make at home if that is an option for you. We make buffalo and Nashville hot sandwiches and wraps all the time.
