Metro Detroit: Milford’s Charlie’s Still on Main
We’re back! Your favorite real estate and mortgage people with this week Fun Food Friday. This week, we are stepping a little out of our norm, featuring a restaurant that is not Downtown or near where we live. This week we head to Milford to check out Charlie’s Still On Main. Randy and Michelle McKinstry have been trying to get us to this restaurant since it opened nearly 3 years ago. Well they finally succeeded, and as they figured, it is everything Teresa and I look for in a restaurant.
The name says it all…Charlie’s Still…must have something to do with making liquor. Bingo! While they don’t actually make liquor there, but they have a nice selection to choose from. Their décor is all bourbon related. Bourbon barrel lids line the wall, the bar is made from the staves of barrels and the lights are made from the rings of the barrels and empty bourbon bottles. They also have a one of the largest bourbon selections we have seen without being in Kentucky - over 240 choices. On top of that they have 81 Rye whiskeys, 94 blended whiskeys and scotches, 50 tequilas, 34 gins, 17 vodkas and 14 different rums plus a great assortment of craft and domestic beers and wine.
Since this is Fun Food Friday let’s talk about food…Their menu isn’t huge, but it has something for everyone, even vegetarian and gluten free dishes. From deviled eggs to a bone-in Ribeye. There are also a few Kentucky favorites that you typically do not see outside of Kentucky, like the Kentucky Hot Brown (actually one of my favorite Kentucky dishes) and a Pork Shank Burgoo. Everything looked and sounded so good but we couldn’t order the whole menu. We started with the catfish bites, which were served with a Cajun remoulade. For our meals, of course I had to try the Hot Brown, Teresa ordered the grilled salmon burger, Randy had the walleye fish and chips and Michelle the grilled salmon with asparagus. The portions were really nice for the price and the food was super delicious. This is definitely a place we will get back to soon. There are so many other items we would like to try . . . and they have brunch on the weekends.
Charlie’s Still is located at 525 N Main St and is open T-W-T from 4 to midnight and F-S-S from 11AM to Midnight. They are closed on Monday. They have a lot of outdoor seating as an option, but the inside is also pretty wide open and spread out.
Until next week…Live Well, Eat Well! Enjoy Life!
