Metro Detroit: Howell’s The Silver Pig Bar & Oyster Room
The Silver Pig Bar & Oyster Room opened its doors in September of 2016. It is owned by restaurateur Adam Merkel, the owner of Diamonds Steakhouse and Cello in Howell. He also recently opened Pinky’s Rooftop and Bohemia in Royal Oak.
The Silver Pig has that speakeasy vibe. Not only in the sense that it is hidden and only the “cool kids” know where it is located, but also in its off the main drag location, behind and part of Diamonds Steakhouse. It is a craft cocktail bar that serves brick over pizzas, small plate appetizers and fresh oysters along with other great raw bar seafood selections. The times we have been there, the staff has been super friendly and welcoming. They are very knowledgeable on their food and drinks and are more than happy to help you make your selections.
They are known for their oysters with a fresh selection of east and west coast oysters offered every day.
They also have other seafood/raw bar selections such as peel & eat Cajun shrimp and gulf shrimp ceviche. Another item we have on our must try list is The Ultimate Shellfish Tower, a nice selection of everything. Both east and west coast oysters, peel & eat shrimp, snow crab claws and some of the shrimp ceviche. The presentation is beautiful.
They offer a variety of small plates as well as well as a charcuterie board. Their Devils On Horseback are a fan favorite on their small plates menu: dates stuffed with gruyere cheese and wrapped in applewood bacon, served with a cilantro vinaigrette. They also have some short rib tacos that looked absolutely amazing and are on our list for next time we go.
Their pizza’s are amazing! Our absolute favorite is The Four Pigs Pizza…WOW! It is made with pepperoni, Italian sausage, pork belly, guanciale and topped with cilantro. It was so rich and delicious we didn’t want it to go away.
So, If you are in town this weekend for the balloon festival try and get in for a drink and quick bite it is definitely worth the trip. They are located at 102 S Michigan Avenue in Howell. Right behind Diamonds Steak House. They open every day at 4 p.m. and are closed on Monday.
Until next week . . . Live well, eat well and enjoy life!
