Detroit: Eat Detroit Foodie Event
This past Tuesday, June 27th, Mitch Albom’s Say Detroit Charity hosted it’s 3rd Eat Detroit event downtown. Mitch started this charity following the Super Bowl in Detroit in 2006. His vision was that the city “should be super all the time, not just for one weekend”, and helps Detroiters in need.
Fast forward 13 years, to 2019, and Eat Detroit was born. This is an event where a number of local restaurants are involved, and offers an evening of strolling and dining throughout the city. This year there were 25 restaurants on the list in the Downtown, Midtown, Brush Park and Corktown neighborhoods. Every restaurant offers 2-3 signature small plates, plus a specialty cocktail, which is all included in the price. They also offer a shuttle system to get you from area to area to maximize your experience. While it is impossible to get to all 25 in the 4 hour window, with a lot of strategic planning, we were able to get to 12 of them. Our focus was on restaurants we had not been to before, or maybe hadn’t been there in a while . . . with the exception of Second Best, which is one of our favorites, so we HAD TO go there.
The experience is different from location to location. Some places offer live music, others might have a DJ or maybe a jazz band playing in the background. San Morello at the Shinola Hotel had Alexander Zonjic entertaining the guests.
We aren’t going to go on and on about every restaurant, we will let the pictures speak for themselves. However, there were a couple of surprises that truly caught us off guard, in a good way, and we will definitely have to make a special trip to get back to try their full menus. While everything was delicious a few standouts were the Roasted Porchetta at San Morello, the Moroccan Lamb Meatballs at Supergeil, the Lump Crab Cake at Savanna Blue, and the Char Sui Pork Belly at Pao.
We hope you enjoy the photos. If you would like more information on this event for next year you can reach out to us directly and we will be happy to let you know when we hear news on next year’s date.
