Metro Detroit: Brighton’s Jezebel’s Saloon

We stumbled across Jezebel’s Saloon while walking back from a different destination in Brighton. We were walking back to our car and as we were walking by some people came out and we heard them saying how much they liked it so we had to go in and check it out. What we loved about this place, is just as much about the vibe/décor as the food and drinks that we saw. It was so cool we had to make a special trip to go back the following weekend. It’s hard to describe the feeling you get when you walk thru their front door. It’s rustic, like you are walking into a divey saloon but a modern day divey saloon. You can tell a lot of thought went into the décor to give it that feel of a classic saloon. There is a long bar to the right and high top tables on the left. Behind the bar they have old wooden crates stacked up which they have various random items displayed. Everything from an old TV to an armadillo. They are known for serving their drinks in red solo cups.

As mentioned above this is a “saloon” so of course there are your standard stuffed animals and steer skulls throughout as rustic décor but also lots of steamy posters on the wall that you might have seen in your neighbors or uncles garage when you were younger. We thought Farrah Fawcett poster over the bar was classic. They also have an TV that scrolls through their beers on tap, up to date sports scores and features ads for their “not craft” cocktails like the Thoroughbred Manhattan and The Tinder Date which is described as Smoky, Hot and Spicy.

Now on to the food, as they refer to the food on their website the “Fine Diving”. I’ll start by saying the portions are big and the menu is not that of a dive bar. They have burgers and fries but they also have items like Lemon Chicken, Fried Rice and Tequila Lime Tacos but the food that attracted us was their Chicken Sandwich (The Jezebel), Fish N’ Chips and most importantly their Nacho El Gordo. The nacho is dinner and a show. It comes out in a large tin can on a sheet tray. The chips are layered in the can with onion, bell peppers, salsa, corn, cheese sauce, black beans jalapeños sour cream and cilantro (you can add beef, chicken or shrimp for an additional charge) They place it on the table and lift the can exposing all the goodness packed inside and gravity takes over hence the need for the sheet tray. It is just a pile of ooey gooey goodness for the table to share, which is what we did.

For those of you who follow us regularly you know we are chicken sandwich fanatics, I guess you could say we have an unhealthy obsession for them. This is one we had to try, it looked so good. While it was not a Nashville Hot sandwich it was still a big hit with us, the breading was crispy yet light allowing the chicken to be the star of the show. We also had the Fish N’ Chips which is served as a whole filet not pieces. They use Panko Breaded Walleye and a homemade remoulade sauce, absolutely delicious. Other items include fried pickles, chili, six cheese and potato pierogi and more.

The problem we have when going to a place like this is we can only order a few items but we want to order everything. So, yes we will be going back. Jezebels is located at 205 W Main St in Brighton and are open W-Th from 11-midnight, F-Sat 11-1:30 AM and Sun 11-11. They are closed Monday and Tuesday. They offer happy hour W, Th & Sun from 3-6 with discounted drinks and featured happy hour menu.

Until next week, live well, eat well and enjoy life!
