Detroit: Midtown’s Condado Tacos
It’s me…your favorite Realtor and lover of all food (well almost all food) here with this weeks Fun Food Friday. With yesterday being Cinco de Mayo, it got me thinking about Mexican food. I know everyone has their favorite Mexican restaurant, as we do, but if you want to try something new give Condado’s in Midtown Detroit a try.
Condado Tacos, as they are formally known, has numerous locations throughout the Midwest with 6 or 7 in Michigan with the midtown location being at 634 Seldon St. between 2nd and 3rd. While their main focus is tacos (which they have a lot of choices) they also have a nice selection of queso dips, guacamole and salsas to dip your chips or put on your tacos. They have an option to build your own tacos and nachos with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. And of course it wouldn’t be complete without a full bar serving up some delicious margaritas. They also offer a flight of 3 margaritas if you can’t decide on just one.
However, what we like the most is the openness of the space inside, with a huge U shaped bar right in the center of the room. It is decorated with some absolutely fantastic and creative artwork. Going and just having a drink with some chips and salsa is worth it just for the artwork alone. The theme of the midtown location is (and this is right off their website) “a celebration or repurposing once abandoned buildings. Based off Corktown’s Michigan Central station, the walls demonstrate a taco takeover of a building the world has forgotten and that nature is trying to reclaim. Characters race to join the raging party inside the historical train station.”
So, if you are looking for someplace fun to go this weekend, give Condado’s a try. There are also a number of other places right near them as well that are also very interesting, so it is an area that can keep you entertained for hours. All these places are within a 2 block walk: Jumbo’s Bar, Gus’s Fried Chicken, Barcade, Nain Rouge Brewery (opening May 13th), Smith & Co., Selden Standard, Honest John’s, SheWolf and our favorite cocktail bar, Castalia at Sfmato.
Until next week…Eat Well! Enjoy Life!
