Detroit: Battle of the Bars - Grey Ghost & She Wolf

It’s your favorite Realtor and lover of all foods (well almost all foods) here with this weeks edition of Fun Food Friday. Even though it is bone chillin’ cold out, we still have to eat. While we have been staying home a lot and cooking in, we still get out occasionally to dine out. Especially when it is a special event like Grey Ghost and She Wolf’s “Battle Of The Bars 2022” which they just had this past Monday the 24th.

Battle Of The Bars 2022 was held at Grey Ghost (last year it was at She Wolf). It is a friendly competition between the owners/chefs of both restaurants who are actually really good friends. This was a 6-course prefixed menu paired with 6 cocktails prepared by bartenders from both restaurants - 3 from Grey Ghost and 3 from She Wolf. The drinks were served with no knowledge of which restaurant made which drink. After the last course we were asked to vote on our favorite, along with some local celebrity judging and the winner was determined. Sorry you have to wait till the end to find out.

For those of you who know Teresa and I, you know that GG has become one of our favorite places and not just because our son Dylan works there. While their menu is not a huge menu, it is constantly changing with the seasons. We have shared Grey Ghost in the past, but it has been a while. We could feature them once a month and never run out of good food to post. I also want to give them a shout out for making Yelp’s Top 100 Restaurants in the country. While they are not the only Michigan restaurant…. they are the only Detroit restaurant on the list (the other 2 are in Grand Rapids).

My Personal opinion is that you can usually never go wrong with a tasting menu. You get a wide variety of food style and flavors so you have to be open to trying new and exciting things. I won’t break down each course but all photos are in order of how they were served. If you have never tried GG, I really recommend it. From their fried bologna appetizer and burger (which is in a league of its own) to their steaks and seafood, everything is always fresh and delicious.

…and the winner is…2nd course Blood Moon Rising by Grey Ghost. It was definitely our favorite of the night, although the Betty White drink on Grey Ghost’s everyday drink menu is amazing as well.

Until next week…Eat Well and Enjoy Life!!!
