Metro Detroit: Livonia’s One Under

Happy Friday. I guess it is time for this weeks Fun Food Friday! As you may know, every week we like to feature non chain or corporate owned places (even though we occasionally let one slip in). This week we are going to one of the local Livonia golf courses - 1 Under. All 3 of Livonia’s Golf Course Restaurant bars are individually owned by Local Restauranteurs. Whispering Willows has Tin Cup which we have featured in the past and is owned by Beth Burr, Fox Creek has Coaches Corner and is owned by Mike George, and then there is Idyl Wyld and 1 Under which is owned by the Tomina brothers Brian, Steven and Jason.

The Tomina brothers took this location over in 2007 right before we headed into the great housing crash and recession. They not only lived through that, but also the recent COVID shutdowns. Since taking over they have modernized, renovated and expanded by adding an additional indoor banquet room on the lower level and a nice outdoor heated dining area. Following their renovations there is now always plenty of seating where before it would be crowded and loud when they were really busy or had a band playing. There are plenty of TV’s for watching your favorite sporting events.

1 Under’s menu is not huge, but is not your typical bar menu. Sure they have items like wings, pretzel bites, sandwiches, burgers and pizza, but they also have lettuce wraps, spring rolls, chicken & waffles, and a variety of specialty tacos. However, what stands out is their bar. On top of over 70 beers on tap, they offer a great selection of bourbons (our favorite) as well as many canned and bottled beers.

Everything on the menu sounded good, but we couldn’t order everything. We chose the Chicken Shawarma Tacos, the Chicken Cobb Salad and some One Under Potatoes. The tacos were very flavorful and the garlic sauce had an awesome kick to it. The Cobb Salad was bigger than we expected, and the salad dressing choices were good. The potatoes are like potato skins, that are cut up in pieces and then fried, with the same potato skin toppings. This was way better than just potato skins because everything was crisp and crunchy! The pizza looked amazing, as well as the burgers and sammiches. Next time we are going to try the French Dip and the Chicken Wrap with choices of sauce including BBQ, Ranch, Buffalo, Honey Mustard, Caesar, Spicy Thai, chipotle BBQ or Blue Cheese.

This is a great place to hang out, and we know many people who have had baby showers, wedding showers and funeral luncheons here. As you can see from the pictures the event rooms are quite large. Plus the quality of their banquet food it really good as well, which is not the case everywhere.
