Metro Detroit: Bahama Breeze

In 1996 Darden Restaurant Group, founded by Bill Darden, opened the first Bahama Breeze in Orlando Florida. Today there are more than 40 locations nationwide covering 15 states from Florida to Washington, the state not DC. Some of their other restaurants include Red Lobster, Ruth’s Chris, Longhorn Steakhouse, and  Olive Garden

Bahama Breeze is a Tropical Island inspired restaurant featuring Caribbean and Latin inspired seafood, chicken, steaks and tropical drinks. Their goal is to create an island atmosphere, complete with live music, tropical cocktails, and a laid-back atmosphere. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy a meal with friends or family . . . or better yet Happy Hour!

The menu features a fusion of Latin American and Caribbean flavors, bringing you a taste of the islands.  They offer a range of dishes including their signature whole Jamaican Jerk Chicken Wings, delicious Paella, Coconut Shrimp and their Jerk Chicken Pineapple Bowl to name a few.

Their tropical drink selection alone is worth the trip! How can you not have a good time while sipping on one of these?

But we are here to specifically talk about their happy hour.  Happy hour here is Monday thru Friday from 4-6 PM and Sunday thru Thursday from 9 to close.  They offer

  • $3 14 oz draft beers

  • $4 well drinks and 20 oz draft beers, bottled beers and White Claws

  • $6 wines and sangrias.

  • Plus you can enjoy one of their specialty Bahamarita, Bahama Mama, the Ultimate Pina Colada, a Mojito Cubano, Classic Margarita or a Pineapple-Coconut Martini for only $5.

On the food side, they offer half off all of their appetizers, except for their wings. Half off appetizers paired with these awesome drink specials is a deal that is hard to pass up!

We started with the Ultimate Pina Colada served with a strawberry swirl and Bacardi black rum floater, and their Mojito Cubano, a traditional mojito also served with a black rum float.

For food we ordered their empanadas made with seasoned beef and potatoes, seasoned sour cream and pineapple chutney for dipping.  They were flaky and packed a lot of flavor.  The seasoned sour cream and pineapple chutney were a prefect balance with the savory beef filling.  We also ordered the crab and 3 cheese dip which is served hot with warm tortilla chips.  It was really good and cheesy and there was a decent amount of crab in it.

We finished with one of their signature Aruba Red beers, a beer brewed by Anheuser Busch exclusively for Bahama Breeze.   We really like happy hour here! The food and drinks are refreshing and delicious, and the best part is our bill as under $30.

If you’re ever in Livonia or any other area with a Bahama Breeze location, consider stopping by to experience the vibrant flavors of the Caribbean! Their open every day at 11 AM and close at 10 PM Sunday thru Thursday, 11 PM Friday and Saturday.

Until next time . . . live well, eat well and enjoy life!
